How Green is our Mayor?

The mayor is about to hold a fundraising fish and chip supper. Will he serve endangered cod or will he set the tone for a greener Brighton & Hove and serve pollack or whiting as suggested by the Marine Conservation Society. Watch this space!

M & S are celebrating an 80% cut in the number of carrier bags handed out. Congratulations. They plan to launch an advertising campaign to highlight this achievement. I hope they will not wipe out the benefits of less carrier bags with their advertising campaign!

Can we be green and own a car?

Well I have just recently acquired one - I do share with another so officially I own half a car which is better than owning a full one. To increase greeness we absolutely only use it when necessary. Thanks to Top Tips from my brother, a mechanic, I can adopt the following measures to increase my car -owning green credentials;

• Check tyre pressure every week.
• Drive with an empty boot otherwise you are carrying a heavy load around needlessly.
• Only fill your fuel tank for long journeys otherwise you are carrying a heavy load around needlessly.
• If you have fifth gear use this as soon as you can.

Our vehicle is diesel. We hope to get it converted to run on bio-diesel. Watch this space.

p.s. The food growing experiment is still a challenge but green things are still growing!!!
